Our trek today is a perfect example of encountering surprises on our hike. Yesterday was about wildlife, today was about a local sport and stumbling upon the set of a Netflix show.
Coasteering
We ran across several groups of teenagers engaging in “Coasteering” which is a sport where people move around in pretty extreme coastal zones. They were with guides and wearing wetsuits, helmets, and flotation devices. They descended some pretty rough cliffs and then were herded off cliffs into deep water like penguins off an iceberg. Given the squeals we heard, not all were initially enthusiastic. School is still in session here so appears to have been a field trip. Given our litigious climate in the US, can’t imagine this as a field trip in our country.
The Witcher?
Not long after that the trail took us to a narrow harbor that was being made into a television set. Based on rumors and a short chat with a staff member, they were preparing to film a scene from the Netflix show The Witcher. Laurie and I have watched the show and this is evidently for an upcoming season. No actual filming or actors or actresses today—it was all about setup for the scene to be filmed the next day. Quite a production, for just one scene.
Day 6 of the Welsh Coast
This trail is proving to be one of our favorite. Beautiful scenery, cute dogs, and challenging, but rarely brutal, paths. This was the first time we had to resort to using a taxi. The local buses are fairly reliable—but when one failed to show we opted for the quick way home.
