Route 66 Can Sing

If you ever plan to motor west,
Travel my way, take the highway that’s best.
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.
Lyrics to Route 66, Bob Troup

If you travel Route 66 eastbound of Albuquerque at 45 miles per hour you can hear the Mother Road play America the Beautiful. We heard about this from our friend, Scott, before we started our Journey Across America at the end of February. We put it down in our list of things to do and see. When we rolled into Albuquerque earlier this week, we headed out to see it in action.

As our Subaru approached the designated section, we found a construction zone. Watch to see what happens.

Trip Update. We’ve now been on our journey for over four months. We’ve been to 34 states, the District of Columbia, and one Canadian province. We’ve had some great experiences and learned a lot about our country. But best of all, we’ve connected and reconnected with friends and relatives; some whom we haven’t seen for decades, some we’ve never met.

Related Info. The singing road segment is off of I-40, eastbound, at exit 170, between mileposts 4 and 5, to the west of Tijeras, NM. Look for the signs and keep your car at 45 mph. The fun feature was sponsored by National Geographic.
