One cool tradition in England is that people name their houses and it doesn’t have to be a fancy manor; even modest flats usually sport a title. Sometimes it is related to the former use of the building, a particular feature, or maybe the owners name.
In the ancient Cotswold town of Chipping Campden, the houses on our street had no numbers—only names—which made it a bit difficult to find our Airbnb named “Cowfair.” We did find it, but despite our best efforts, cannot find out what Cowfair even means. And now that we are in Wales, many of the names are in Welsh.
Years ago Laurie and I were inspired to name our own home “Haven.” Partly as to what we hope it will be, and partly a nod to one of our favorite TV/move series: Firefly.

Day 9 of the Wales Coastal Walk
Some of our hikes are a real joy. Great views and weather, interesting people and animals.
Yesterday was a bit of a slog.
We did meet interesting people and my favorite trail dog. But the middle part of the day was marred by rain that stuck to the thick foilage that crowded the trail. We wound up soaked from the waste down. Fortunately, the sun broke out towards the end and we had a chance to dry out at a nice cafe. Next time I’ll pack my gaiters when the weather looks iffy. Might have kept my shoes and socks dry.
