We love the politeness and sense of humor in this part of England when it comes to warning signs. Instead of demanding, “No Parking” a sign might begin with “Polite Notice” and ask people to not block the driveway. I don’t know if it is more effective, but it is certainly more civil.
Dog poo or “fouling” is also another source of signs. One sign on a local bulletin board announced that “The Dog Poo fairy is on vacation…” and encouraged people to clean up. Yesterday on our hike we spotted this hand painted rock with poetry about poo.
That gentle sense of humor is one of the charming things about Wales and southwest England.
On this trip we are doing a lot of “home based hiking” where we stay in an Airbnb for 3-7 days. Means day packs on many days which is a lot less strenuous. And if the weather is bad, we can take a day off. It was pouring on Thursday so we watched it from the comfort of the sun room. Then back on the Coastal Trail here in Wales for an abbreviated hike. Abbreviated because we skipped the last part to miss more storms. Fortunately the forecast for the coming week is better.
