“Man Plans, and God Laughs.”
Old Yiddish adage
Despite all the hiking and backpacking we do it has been many years since we’ve had problems with blisters. But rain and shoe failure have caused blisters that will sideline us for at least a few days.
We’ve opted to take a train from Deba to Bilbao, a major city, where we should be able to find replacement shoes for Laurie and give her some time to heal before returning to Deba via train to resume our pilgrimage. If you pray, we wouldn’t mind a few.
Before departing this morning a local citizen opened the church for us and a French peligrino for a private tour. Pretty amazing.

And no, I did not plan this so we could watch Top Gun Maverick in Bilbao—although I see several theaters showing it.
We will pick up the blog when we resume our journey. Relive today will look a tad unusual.

Lot of miles covered in Relive today…most of it on the train. You will notice a lot of zig-zagging as we searched for just the right shoes.
The church pics were awesome. I would want to sit for a very long time in there.
Some very amazing places.
Now those new shoes Laurie’bought are just righteous! Hope the blister problem has cleared up.
Feet are definitely feeling better. I appreciate all the thoughts and prayers. We might have rain today, so that will be a good test. Hope the rain in your areas gives way to sun soon.
Dennis, hey boomer, you take the picture before you consume the food! Glad you found good shoes for Laurie. Rest up and praying for a good resumption to the pilgrimage.
I’ll have to remember to take the pic before eating. But sometimes I’m just so hungry…
Fortunately we are doing well back on the trail.
D & L. Glad you found new shoes. I hope you feel better soon. I’ll keep you in my thoughts. Now you get a chance to explore a new place.
I am so sorry to hear about the shoe failure and the dreaded blisters. Can be so painful. On a positive note, we saw Top Gun yesterday and loved it. It highlights the tremendous ability of our military aircrafts and the beyond amazing skill of our pilots.
Hoping new shoes and a slow start will be the answer. We also saw Top Gun yesterday. Really enjoyed it, but will need to see it one more time in English. It’s very strange hearing a Spanish voice come out of Tom’s mouth. I’d say we understood the plot and missed key pieces of dialogue.
