Day 12: Vila do Castelo to Caminha. No sunscreen required

”Rainy days should be spent at home with a cup of tea and a good book.”

Bill Waterson
This statue was dressed for the weather.

We like Bill’s suggestion above. I even looked into delaying some reservations to wait out the nasty weather forecast for today, but no luck. Too bad as Vila do Castelo and our hostel there were both top notch. So this morning we put on all our rain gear and set out for the last town we will stay at in Portugal.

After a short train ride to make the day more palatable.

Frankly, glad we did as it came down in a steady drizzle. Soaked pilgrims were the rule, not the exception. And we weren’t the only Santiago bound walkers on that train. The middle and right photo below are of Spain, across the Minho River, a natural dividing line for the border.

Not a lot of photos in Laurie’s Relive video today because of the short walk and the steady rain. But you can get a taste of what it was like.

Tomorrow we cross over into Spain for the final 100 KM of our journey to Santiago. The forecast for the next few days does look better, but the sunscreen might not be needed at all, or only sparingly.
